Hillsboro Clobbers Mauston in Softball Action
The Hillsboro Tigers eased passed Mauston 19-0 Thursday night in High School Softball non-conference action. Hillsboro got a lot of runs but also a strong defensive effort. Jaelyn Bloor pitched 5 shutout innings giving up just 2hits walking none and striking out 13. Peyton Sullivan led the way offensively going 3×4 with a 2run homerun. Elizabeth Cairns went 3×3 at the plate for the Tigers while Michelle Hora went 2×3 with a triple. Kylie and Brie Heller each had a double for the Golden Eagles accounting for Maustons 2 hits. Mauston drops to 0-1, while Hillsboro improves to 2-0 on their season.

3 Mauston Wrestlers Headed to State
The Mauston Golden Eagle Wrestling will send 3 wrestlers to the WIAA Individual Wrestling State Tournament beginning this Thursday at the Kohl Center in Madison. Hayden Gyllin will represent Mauston as Sectional Champion. In the 190lb weight class Gyllin started his day off with a 15-7 major decision over Fox Austin of Cuba City/Benton Scales Mound. Gyllin then secured pin fall victories over Carson Loshaw of the Bellevue co-op in the semifinals and Ross Crist of the Darlington/Black Hawk co-op to secure a sectional championship and his 2nd straight trip to the State Tournament. Gyllin will be the #5 seed at state. Espyn Sweers punched his first ticket to state by defeating Trei Udelhoven 5-4 in the Sectional semi-finals. Sweers narrowly fell to Mason Lane of Lodi 7-5 in overtime in the sectional final match. They could meet each other again in the State quarterfinal as Sweers is the #8seed and Lane is the #1 seed. Drake Gosda was able to battle his way into state by placing 3rd. After a semi-final loss to Blake Endres of the Bellvue co-op Gosda battled his way through wrestlebacks fo finish 3rd. Gosda pinned Carter Jensen of Nekoosa in the wrestleback before pinning Brody Banse of GET/MM in the 3rd place match. Gosda is representing Mauston for a 3rd time at the State Tournament. WRJC radio will have full coverage of Mauston wrestling at the state tournament beginning this Thursday night.
Mauston Grapplers Dominate Dells to Complete Undefeated Regular Season
The Mauston Wrestling team completed and undefeated dual regular season by taking down rival Wisconsin Dells 60-18 Thursday night. The first match of the night was a thriller which saw Mauston’s Austin Hunter getting a pin over Wisconsin Dells Cameron Pagel. Mauston also got pins from Preston Seebecker, Brekk Peterson, Alex Suhr, and Mason Romanelli. The victory pushes Mauston to 14-0 on the season and finishes 6-0 in South Central Conference matches. The South Central Conference Tournament is coming up on Friday February 2nd in Adams-Friendship.
Mauston Girls Earn First Victory over Tomah Since 2015
The Mauston Golden Eagles girls basketball team took care of business against Tomah Tuesday night winning 51-40. Mauston trailed 18-16 midway through the first half before going on a 27-4 run to take a 43-22 lead and would hang on for the victory. Kylie Heller and Carly Onsager each scored 13 to lead Mauston. Bre Heller added 11 for the Golden Eagles who improve to 12-3 on the season. Tomah was led by Brielle Plueger who finished with a team high 11points, Tomah drops to 3-12. Mauston will now host Wautoma Friday night a game that can be heard on SmashCountry92.9FM and wrjc.com. The win snapped a 7 game losing streak versus Tomah dating back to 2015.
Mauston Boys Basketball Earns 8th Straight Victory vs Tomah
The Mauston Golden Eagles Boys Basketball Team used a big first half to get by Tomah 62-55 Tuesday night. Mauston led 35-21 at halftime and held on for the victory. Brock Massey had a big game for the Golden Eagles finishing with 29points 11rebounds and 8 assists. Brock also got help from his teammates as Keenan Smith finished with 12points and Kyle Dahl added 11points. The win improved Mauston to 6-6 and dropped Tomah to 2-9. Michael Zastopil led Tomah with a career high 16points. Mauston will host Wautoma Thursday a game that can be heard on SmashCountry92.9FM and WRJC.com. The win is the 8th in a row for Mauston over Tomah.
Mauston Wrestling Honors Gyllin Family On Hall of Fame Night with a Pair of Dual Victories
The Mauston Wrestling team stayed perfect on their season pulling off a pair of victories at their home triangular. Mauston pounded Adams-Friendship 78-0 and then held off Sparta 48-29. It was Mauston Hall of Fame Night. Mauston wrestling inducted Bruce, Judy, Dane, and Randy Gyllin into its Hall of Fame. Although not inducted into the Hall of Fame Thursday, Hayden Gyllin inducted his opponent to the mat pinning his Sparta opponent in just 39seconds. Jacob Zimbauer, Espyn Sweers, Brekk Peterson, Espen Pitts and Mason Romanelli picked up pin fall victories for Mauston against Sparta. Jayden Zimbauer and Brekk Peterson picked up wins against Adams-Friendship. Mauston and Adams-Friendship wrestled just 4 matches as the Golden Eagles received forfeit victories in the other weight classes. Mauston moves to 2-0 in the conference and 9-0 overall.
Onsager Helps Lead Lady Golden Eagles over G-E-T
Mauston defeated Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 76-41. High scorer was Carly Onsager with 25 pts and 13 rebounds, 9 offensive. Kylie Heller with 17 points, 5 steals. Bre Heller 17 points, 7 assists. Mauston plays at Adams Thursday night to continue conference play, while sitting at 9-2, 1-0 in conference play.
Schmitz, Hot 3 Point Shooting Lifts G-E-T Boys over Mauston
The Galesville-Ettrick-Trempealeau Redhawks were able to pull away late to defeat the Mauston Golden Eagles 74-55 in Boys basketball action Tuesday night. It was a game highlighted by two of the more prolific scorers in the state in Brock Massey and Cody Schmitz. Schmitz scored a game high 32 points and passed current Washington Wizard Johnny Davis on the WIAA’s all-time scoring list. Massy finished with a team high 25 points for the Golden Eagles. Mauston kept the game within striking distance until the very end where the Redhawks pulled away with hot 3 point shooting. G-E-T improves to 9-2 on the season Mauston drops to 3-6. Mauston will be at Adams-Friendship this Friday night.
