Mauston Girls Basketball Wins Inter-County Game

Mauston girls Basketball hosted New Lisbon on Tuesday night and left the gym with a 71-37 victory. Bre Heller lead all scorers with 14 points while adding 8 rebonds, 5 assists and 7 steals to the stat sheet.

She was closely backed up by Catie Lavold with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals and Kylie Heller putting up 12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assist and 1 steal.

Mauston again had multiple scorers with 11 girls finding the bottom of the net on the evening.

 

Next up is the first conference game of the year for the Lady Eagles as they travel to Wisconsin Dells on Friday night December 13th for what will certainly be a battle as it always is.

Mauston Girls Win Again

The Mauston girls playing shorthanded had a hard fought battle but never gave up and played to the very end to come out with another victory edging out Reedsburg by a score of 63-60. With a big game by Kylie Heller scoring 28 points, going 9 for 10 from the free throw line and adding 8 assists and 8 rebounds. She was followed up by Catie Lavold and Ella Franek each scoring 8 points, with Catie adding 8 rebounds and 2 assists as well. it was a good team win with 7 of the 9 girls to see action scoring on the night.

Next up for Mauston is a home match up against New Lisbon on Tuesday December 10th.

Mauston Wrestlers win 3 a Schluter Duals

The Mauston Golden Eagles wrestling team went 3-0 at its season opener the Jason Schluter Memorial duals.  Mauston eased by New Lisbon 78-6, Westby 70-6, before earning a 51-26 victory over Ithaca/Weston.  Landyn Miller was the only Mauston wrestler to wrestle 3 actual matches and win 3 actual matches.  Other Mauston wrestlers went 3-0 but earned at least forfeit victory in the duals.  Maustons next dual meets will be in De Soto as part of a quadrangular.  New Lisbon went 0-3 at the Mauston quad.

Mauston Defeats Spartans in Girls Basketball

Tuesday night December 3rd the Mauston Lady Golden Eagles traveled to Sparta and came home with a victory, defeating the Spartans by a score of 63-39. Mauston was led by Catie Lavold scoring 15 points and adding 4 assists and 2 steals. Right behind her was Kylie Heller with 14 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. Next up is another away game as they travel To Reedsburg on Thursday night, December 5th.

Almond-Bancroft Stymies Mauston Girls Basketball

The Mauston Golden Eagles Girls basketball struggled offensively in a 49-42 loss to Almond-Bancroft on Thursday night. Mauston trailed 19-16 at halftime but took a 28-27 lead in the 2nd half.  Almond-Bancroft went on a 13-1 run after the short lived Mauston lead to pull away for the victory.  Mauston was led by Kylie Heller who finished with a team high 15points.  Aaliyah Newby led all scorers with 17points for Almond-Bancroft.  Mauston drops to 1-1 on the season and will travel to G-E-T Tuesday night for their next game.  Almond-Bancroft improves to 1-0 on their season.

Lady Golden Eagles Ease By Royall in Basketball Opener

The Mauston Golden Eagles girls basketball team opened up their season with a 58-36 victory over Royall Tuesday night.  Caitie Lavold led Mauston with 16points.  It was a team effort by the Golden Eagles who also got 13points from Ella Franek and 11 from Bre Heller.  Royall was led by Bria Gruens game high 18points while Layla Marty added 14.  Mauston led 33-8 at halftime and coasted to the victory in the 2nd half.  Mauston will host Almond-Bancroft Thursday night, a game that can be heard on SmashCountry92.9FM and WRJC.com.

Mauston Boys Cross Country Team Advances to State with Alexys Smith Earning Sport on Girls Side

The Mauston Golden Eagles had a great day at the 2024 WIAA Division 2 Sectional Cross Country Championships held at Skyline Golf Course in Black River falls on Friday October 25th..

The top two teams as well as the top 5 place finishers from non-qualifying teams advance to the state cross country championships held at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin rapids on Saturday November 2nd,,,

 

In the girls 5000 Meter race,  Mauston Golden Eagle, Alexys Smith punched her ticket to race at the state championships with her 4th place overall finish. Alexys covered the 3.1 mile course in 20:11 a new personal best effort for Alexys. The girls Division 2 race starts at 12:40 on Saturday.

 

The Maustonboys team punched their ticket for the boys Division 2 race with their outstanding 2nd place at the BRF sectional. The top five team scores were:  West Salem 30, MAUSTON 46,Richland Center /Ithaca 105, G-E-T 131 and Reedsburg Area 153..There were 14 complete teams in the boys race…The boys team placed five runners in the top 20 places.  Josh Ellerman 2nd 16:50, Brekk Peterson 5th 17:18, Weston Pouillie 8th 17:26, Sebastian naquayama 13th 17:50, Haakon Peterson 18th 18:10. The balance of the team Noah Cortez 26th 18:40 and oscar Spindler 52nd 19:15.  The boys Division 2 race starts @ 2:40 on Saturday.

Mauston Falls to Darlington to End Volleyball Season

The Mauston Golden Eagles Volleyball season came to an end falling to Darlington on the road in a WIAA D3 Regional quarterfinal matchup 3-1.  Mauston had a lead in set 24-20 but could not hang on as Darlington rallied back to win it 27-25.  The momentum would carry over for the Redbirds taking set two 25-16.  Mauston tried to rally back taking set three 25-21 but Darlington rolled in set four 25-14 to take the match.  Maddi Quist led the Golden Eagles with 12kills and 24digs.  Quist and Mallory Kastner wrapped up their Mauston volleyball careers both with a solid game.  Mauston finishes their season 15-14.  Darlington improves to 17-13 and moves on to play La Crosse Aquinas Thursday night.

Mauston Cross Country Teams Have Success at Conference Meet

Senior, Alexys Smith won the 2024  SCC individual championship title at the 2024 SCC girls championships at Westfield yesterday…as well as earning first team all-conference honors. Alexys conquered the 5000 meter course in a time of 20;20.  The MHS girls team placed 3rd at the 2024 championships. Team Scores:  Westfield 40 Dells 41 MAUSTON 79 Wautoma 80  AF  inc..

 

The boys raced to the team championship with a score of 19 points to win the team title.. Senior, Josh Ellerman won the individual championship with a time of 16:57…earned first team All-Conference honors as well for Josh…The MHS boys team placed six runners in the top seven places at the SCC Meet as well as all seven MHS Varsity runners in the top 13 places.

 The MHS “pack attack” took control of the SCC in the first 1000 meters and never looked back…the balance of the team placing…Brekk Peterson 3rd (17:36) Weston Pouillie 4th (17:44)

Sebastian Naquayouma 5th (18:00) Haakon Peterson 6th ( 18:24) Noah Cortez 7th ( 18:56 0 and Oscar Spindler 13th ( 19:54)..  Josh, Brekk, Weston, Sebastian, Haakon, Noah were First team All-Conference with Oscar earning second team All-Conference honors… The team scores:  MAUSTON 19  Westfield 64  Wisconsin Dells 72  Wautoma 93  Nekoosa  Inc and AF inc.This is  the  5th consecutive SCC team title for MHS boys CC..

Mauston Runners Dominate Dells Meet

The MHS cross country teams competed at the 2024 Wisconsin Dells Invitational on Saturday October 12th at the Christmas Mountain Golf Course. Teams competing at the invites were: Mauston, Baraboo, Medford, Prairie du Chien and Wisconsin Dells.

 

The girls varsity race features Mauston’s Aleyxs Smith winning the girls varsity race with a time of 20:44.  “Alexys took the lead from the get go and managed the race very well.  It is always good to see the blue and gold checkerboards leading the race” commented Coach DeVoe. The girls team raced to a 4th place finish at the Dells Invite.  Team scores:  Baraboo 37, Medford 45, Dells 65, MAUSTON 108 and PDC 113.

 

The boys varsity race featured  the MHS boys varsity placing five runners in the top 10 places scoring an impressive 25 points to win the Dells Invite.  Team scores: MAUSTON 25, Baraboo 31,

PDCh 102, Medford 103 and Dells 114.  The boys varsity raced another solid team race..The MHS ” pack attack’ placing five runners in the top nine places:  Josh Ellerman 1st /17:10, Brekk Peterson 4th/17;55, Weston Pouillie 5th/17:59, Sebastian Naquayouma 6th/ 18:05 and hakkon Peterson 9th/18:19/9th.  The balance of the BV team was in hot pursi=uit with Noah Cortez 17th and Jonah West 19th place.  “The boys varsity had and impressive 24 second time gap between our 2nd runner and our 5th runner- any time you are racing fast with a tight pack – good things are going to happen.- classic MHS CC racing” commented Coach John Maki.

 

The MHS CC teams will be competing at the 2024 South Central Conference Championships on Thursday October 17th at Westfield High School.  Competition @ 3:30 middle school race – 4:15 High School Girls and 5:00 High School Boys.
