Sweers, Gyllin Headed Back to State for Mauston Wrestling
The Mauston Golden Eagles wrestling team will send a pair of wresters to state as Sectional Champions. Hayden Gyllin breezed through the sectional round with a tech fall of Fennimores Drew Crubel, a pin over River Valleys Blake Brickl, and a pin over Sugar Rivers Trei Udelhoven. Sweers pinned Nathan Blaschke of Fennimore in the quarterfinals before tech falling Ethyn Bodendein of Richland Center in the Semi-Finals. Sweers was able to revenge a regional final loss from a week ago with a 4-1 overtime victory over Portages Landon Heitmeier in the Sectional Final match at 175pounds. Gyllin will be the #3 seed in D2 for 190lbs while Sweers will be the #2 seed in D2 both get a bye into the quarterfinals.
Mauston Girls Enter Post-Season on a High Note
The Mauston Lady Golden Eagles played the last regular season and final conference game of the year Thursday night at home and finished strong with a 63-27 win over the visiting Hornets from Wautoma.
Bre Heller led all scorers with 26 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks
Catie Lavold added 13 points, 6 assists and 6 steals and Kylie Heller put in 11 points had 4 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks
As the regular season is concluded and tournament action begins, they now wait to see if they will play #11 seed Gale-Ettrick-Trempaleau or #6 seed Altoona. The winner of that game will travel to Mauston on Friday February 28th for the game against your #3 seed Lady Eagles.
Gyllin to Play in High School Football All-Star Game
Mauston will be represented in this summer’s Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All Star-Game by Hayden Gyllin. Gyllin will be joined on the team by rival running back Sam Ersland from Wisconsin Dells. They will be on the Norther Small All-Star team and be coached by Tomah native and retiring Stratford coach Jason Tubbs. The opposing coach will be former Royall coach and current West Salem head coach Ryan Olson.
Mauston Girls Basketball Eases By Black River Falls
Mauston Girls Whip Westby Behind Lavolds Big Game
The Mauston girls started out their week with a 76-49 victory over Westby with another hot night from behind the arc and at the free throw line
making ten 3 point baskets and shooting 90% from the free throw line going 9 for 10 on the night.
Caitlin Lavold led all scorers as she continued her strong February with a new personal best of 22 points to go along with 4 rebounds, 6 steals and 5 assists.
Kylie Heller knocked down 18 points and had 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists and
Ella Franek contributed 14 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 assists. Mauston again had 7 girls score on the night.
They head to Black River Falls Tuesday night for another non-conference game before finishing the week and the regular season against Wautoma on Thursday as they get ready for tournament play starting on February 28th at home.
Mauston Wrestlers Send 6 to Sectionals
The Mauston Golden Eagles will move 6 wrestlers on from the Regional tournament to the sectional tournament claiming 1 as a regional champion. Mauston wrestlers qualifying for sectionals included

Mauston Girls Blast Adams-Friendship with Hot Shooting
The Mauston girls handled things Tuesday night as they went 10-19 from beyond the 3 point arc and cruised to a 81-41 win at Adams=Friendship.
Transition basketball was on display with multiple run outs leading to Bre Heller topping all scorers with 25 points, 8 assists, 5 steals and a block.
Caitlin Lavold was close behind putting up a career high 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals. Kylie Heller added 12 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and 1 block.
Ellie Pouille finished the night with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Mauston had 8 different girls score on the night in a true team effort.
Next up is a trip to Westfield on Friday night.
Mauston Dominates South Central Conference Wrestling Tournament
The Mauston Golden Eagles wrestling team claimed 8 conference champions on its home mats Friday night in the 2025 South Central Conference wrestling tournament. Mauston cruised to the conference tournament championship although Nekoosa won the regular season and overall conference championship due to its head to head dual victory last Monday over the Golden Eagles. Mauston Girls Basketball Stymies Logan
The Mauston Lady Golden Eagles hit the freeway to Lacrosse Logan High School where they took care of business by a score of 49-29 Thursday night.
The girls shared the rock quite nicely as Caitlin Lavold and Kiley Heller tied for leading scorers putting up 14 points each, Bre Heller and Ellie Pouille each had 8 points on the night.
Kylie Heller added 9 rebounds, 3 blocked shots, 1 assist and 1 steal to her stat column, Lavold came home with 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals, Pouille chipped in an assist and a steal of her own while Bre Heller blocked 1 shot, had 3 assists and stole the ball 7 times before calling it a night and heading on home.
Next up for the Lady Eagles is a conference game against the Green Devils Tuesday night February 11th at Adams-Friendship.
