Gruen Leads Royall Past Alma-Center Lincoln in Girls Basketball

The Royall Panther girls’ basketball team used a strong 2nd half to push by Alma-Center Lincoln 61-46 Monday night.  Royall had a huge game from Marah Gruen who had 28points to go along with numerous rebounds, steals, and assists.  Kasey Jones added a dozen points for the Panthers who improve to 16-1 on their season.  Alma-Center Lincoln was led by Ava Cummings who finished with 18points for the Hornets who drop to 11-6 on their season. Royall hosts Bangor Thursday night in a big Scenic Bluffs Conference matchup. 

Royall Roars by Tigers in SBC Girls Battle

The Royall Panther girls basketball team took down Hillsboro 59-39 Friday night.  Kasey Jones led the Panthers with 19points while Marah Gruen added 16 and Bria Gruen chipped in with 11points.  Royall led by 11 at halftime but pushed that lead in the 2nd half winning by 20.  Royall improves to 8-1 in the conference and 15-1 overall Hillsboro drops to 3-6 in conference action and 5-12 overall.

Royall Rallies Past Hillsboro in SBC Boys Basketball

The Royall Panthers boys basketball team rallied for a 54-47 victory over the Hillsboro Tigers Thursday night.  Hillsboro took a two point halftime lead thanks to a David Johnson 3 point bucket right before half.  Royall fought back by feeding Tucker Wildes in the low post.  Tucker finished with a team high 17points as the Panthers fought back for the victory.  Carter Uppena had 15points for the Panthers while Tyrus Wildes added 10.  Hillsboro was led by Isaiah Stokes who finished with a game high 24 points.  The win improves Royall to 11-2 and 4-1 in the Scenic Bluffs Conference.  Hillsboro drops to 7-9 and 3-3 in the conference. 

Late Run Lifts Necedah Boys Past La Farge

Necedah came out firing in the first half and pulled out to a 9-point lead at the break led by senior guard Jack Herried’s 16 points in the frame. The Wildcats increased the defensive pressure in the second half and ground down the Cardinal’s lead until they tied the game up at 42-42 with 3 minutes remaining. The last few minutes of the game belonged entirely to Necedah, who finished the game on a 12-2 run behind a three from Herried, another from junior forward Kynrik Saylor, and senior forward Gage Garcia’s ? from the line. LaFarge was led by senior Hayden Fowell’s team high 21 points and Adam Camlek’s 12. Garcia chipped in 9 and Saylor added 8 for the Cardinals who won their second straight ballgame out of the break.

Wonewoc-Center Lady Wolves Use Free Throws to Get by Riverdale

The Wonewoc-Center girls basketball team held off Riverdale 59-52 Monday night to improve to 7-6 on their season.  Wonewoc-Center made a living at the free throw line knocking down nearly 30 free throws in the victory.  The Wolves were led by Emma Mildbrand who finished with 21 points while Brooklyn Bolton added 20.  Zuri Dennis led Riverdale with a game high 24 points.

Hillsboro Boys Win Adams-Friendship Holiday Tournament

The Hillsboro Tigers boys basketball team took home a Holiday Tournament championship dispatching Gillett 68-52 Friday night.  The tournament was hosted by Adams-Friendship High School.  Hillsboro got off to a good start leading 41-28 at halftime and cruised in the 2nd half to the victory.  Isaiah Stokes led Hillsboro with 23points.  Hillsboro got a big lift of the bench from Zach Morren 11points and Parker Skala 10points.  The win improves Hillsboro to 5-5 on the season.  Gillett drops to 5-4.  Next up for Hillsboro is an all Vernon County showdown with Viroqua in Hillsboro on Tuesday night. 

Royall Girls Take Own Holiday Tournament

The Royall Panther Girls Basketball team won their own holiday tournament Thursday downing Kickapoo for a 2nd time this season this time by a final of 40-32.  Royall got off to a good start leading 20-6 in the first half Kickapoo was able to chip away at the lead but could get no closer than 6.  Marah Gruen led Royall with 16 points.  The win lifts Royall to 11-1 on the season.  Kickapoo drops to 9-3.  Royall will host New Lisbon next Friday. 

Royall BB Splits Lancaster Tournament Games

The Royall Panther boys basketball team split a pair of games at the Coaches vs Cancer Lancaster Holiday Tournament.  The Panthers fell to #3 in Division 4 Darlington 66-57 in the opener. Carter Uppena led the Panthers with 16 points.  Royall bounced back to defeat Lancaster 72-63 in the 3rd place game.  Royall trailed by 1 at halftime but the deficit would have been 4 had it not been for a beyond half court heave by Savon Wainwright to pull the Panthers within 1, Royall road that momentum in the 2nd half scoring the first 9 points of the half and hanging on for the victory.  Landon Lipke led Royall in game two with 15points.  Royall is now 9-2 on the season and will take on Wonewoc-Center next Thursday. 

Royall Boys Basketball Buries La Farge

The #9 ranked Royall Panthers routed La Farge 79-25 Thursday night to improve to 8-1 on the season.  Carter Uppena outscored La Farge himself finishing with a game high 27 points, Ben Crneckiy added 9points for the Panthers.  Twelve total players scored in the Panthers victory.  La Farge was led by Hayden Fowell who finished with 9points.  La Farge drops to 3-5 on their season.  Royall will face Darlington in Lancaster on Wednesday December 27th a game we will have on NOW92oneFM and wrjc.com. 

Late Layup Lifts Bangor Over Hillsboro Boys

The Hillsboro Tigers Boys basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Bangor 54-53 Tuesday night.  Hillsboro took the lead late in the game on a layup by Ben Koopman but Bangor answered with a layup by Nolan Michek to take the lead for good with 5.6 seconds to go.  Hillsboro could not convert at the other ended falling in heartbreaking fashion.  The loss drops Hillsboro to 2-1 in the conference and 3-4 overall.  Bangor improves to 3-0 and 3-2 overall.  Ben Koopman led the Tigers with 15points while Isiah Stokes added 13.  Bangor was led by Chase Horstman who finished with a game high 24 points.  Nolan Michek scored 13 for the Cardinals.  Hillsboro will take on Westby Thursday night.
