Royall Blows By New Lisbon Gruen Closes in On School Scoring Record
Marah Gruen continued to get closer to setting Royall girls basketball all-time scoring record with a 32 point performance in the Panthers 68-31 victory over New Lisbon Thursday night. With the 32 points Gruen is now 36ponts away from setting the Girls School scoring record. She already is the Girls all-time leader in rebounds, assists, and steals. Royall blew open a close game about 5 minutes into the first half thanks to the scoring of Marah Gruen and Kasey Jones who added 22points for the Panthers. The win improves Royall to 11-2 in the Scenic Bluffs Conference and 21-2 overall. New Lisbon was led by Eliza Curtis who had a team high 9points. New Lisbon drops to 3-10 in the conference and 5-17 overall.
Hillsboro Falls Short in Comeback Attempt vs #5 Cashton
The Hillsboro Tigers Boys Basketball team’s comeback fell just short in a 63-60 loss to #5 Cashton Tuesday night. Cashton got off to a fast start garnering a 27-13 lead before Hillsboro went on a 10-2 run to cut the lead to 29-23 right before halftime, but Conner Butzler hit a 3 pointer at the horn for Cashton to build the lead back to 9. Cashton would lead by as many as 12 in the 2nd half but Hillsboro again railed thanks to missed Eagle free throws. Hillsboro had a chance to tie with under 10seconds left but turned the ball over and Cashton ran out the clock. Hillsboro got a team high 24points from Ben Koopman while Isaiah Stokes added 19points. The Tigers fall to 11-8 and 6-4 in the Scenic Bluffs Conference. Noah Hemmersbach had a game high 33points for the Eagles who improve to 10-1 in the conference and 18-1 overall.
Rockets Soar Past Port Edwards in Girls Basketball
The New Lisbon Rockets Girls Basketball cruised past Port Edwards 72-26 Monday night. New Lisbon led wire to wire in the victory getting a game high 17points from Junior Abby Steele. Sr. Klarissa Earhart added 14points while Freshman Olivia Bunker chipped in with 11points. New Lisbon improves to 5-16 on the season and will host Royall Thursday night, a game that can be heard on NOW92oneFM and WRJC.com.
#8 Royall Defeats Blair-Taylor in Girls Basketball
The Royall Panther Girls basketball team had a big defensive 2nd half to pull away from Blair-Taylor 58-35 on Saturday at Just-A-Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells. Blair-Taylor kept it close in the first half trailing just 28-22 behind Samantha Aguillars 10 first half points. Royall outscored the Wildcats 30-13 in the 2nd stanza for the victory however. Marah Gruen led the Panthers with 25points while Kasey Jones added 19. The win improves Royall to 19-2 on their season. Andrea Waldera led the Wildcats with 13points as the fell to 7-14 on their season.
#4 Royall Defeats Blair-Taylor in Boys Basketball
The Royall Panther Boys basketball team used a hot offensive start to push by Blair-Taylor 66-53 Saturday at Just-A-Game Fieldhouse in the Dells. Carter Uppena scored 14 of his game high 20points in the first half helping build a 39-31 halftime lead for Royall. Royall played slightly better defense in the 2nd half pulling away for the victory. Tucker Wildes added 12points for the Panthers who improve to 16-2 on the season. Blair-Taylor was led by Ethan Knisley who finished with 12points. Blair Taylor drops to 6-14 on their season.
Hillsboro Escapes Bangor with First win in 8 Years Over the Cardinals in Boys Basketball
It was nearly Déjà vu all over again for the Hillsboro Tigers boys basketball team. The Tigers lost by 1 to Bangor earlier in the season on a last second bucket by the Cardinals Nolan Michek. With 2.5 seconds to in Thursday Michek had another chance to win the game for Bangor but came up short handing Hillsboro their first victory in 8 years over Bangor. Hillsboro got off to a great start leading 32-18 at halftime but Bangor chugged away at the lead even taking a short lived lead themselves. Hillsboro regained the lead quickly and never relinquished the lead. Hillsboro got 13points a piece from Miles Ravenscroft and Talan Hildreth. The win improves Hillsboro to 6-3 in the Scenic Bluffs Conference and 11-7 overall. Bangor was led by Chase Horstman who finished with 17points. Bangor drops to 9-7 and 7-2 in the Scenic Bluffs Conference.
Wonewoc-Center Hot Start Lifts them Past New Lisbon in SBC GBB
The Wonewoc-Center Wolves Girls Basketball team scored the first 10points of the game in route to a 57-45 victory over the New Lisbon Rockets. The Wolves kept the distance around 10points the entire first half building a 28-15 halftime lead. Wonewoc-Center grew that lead to 19 in the 2nd half before New Lisbon attempted a rally that fell short. New Lisbon was able to trim the lead down to 8 but could get no closer. Emma Mildebrand led the Wolves with 17points, while Olivia Olson added 12. The win improves Wonewoc-Center to 4-7 in the Scenic Bluffs and 9-8 overall. New Lisbon was led by Abby Steele who had a team high 16points, Arria Raese added 15. New Lisbon drops to 3-8 in the conference and 4-15 overall.
Royall Rallies Past Ithaca in D5 BB Top10 Matchup
For the 2nd time in less than a week the Royall Panthers boys basketball team battled past a Top 10 Division 5 ranked team. #9 Royall rallied past #10 Ithaca 58-51 on the road Monday night. Royall trailed in the first half by as many as 15points before rallying in the 2nd half for the victory. Tucker Wildes hit the go-ahead and one bucket in the lane in the closing minutes to give the Panthers a 53-50 lead. Tucker Wildes finished with 11points, but Ben Crneckiy had the hot hand for the Panthers in the game tying his career high with 17points knocking down three 3pointers in the game. Royall improves to 14-2 on the season. Channing Brown had 17points for the Ithaca Bulldogs and surpassed the 1,000 point milestone. Ithaca drops to 13-2 on the season.
Royall Blows Out New Lisbon in SBC Boys Basketball
The Royall Panther boys’ basketball team blew by New Lisbon 71-20 Friday night. Royall got off to a slow start but went on a 22-0 run midway through the first half to break a 7-7 tie and seize control of the game. Royall was led by Carter Uppena who finished with a game high 19points, Tyrus Wildes added 13, while Landon Lipke chipped in with 10. Royall ranked #9 in division 5 improves to 13-2 on the season and 6-1 in the Scenic Bluffs Conference. New Lisbon got a team high 8points from Austin Berndsen, the Rockets fall to 2-13 and 1-6 in the Scenic Bluffs Conference.
Royall Defeats Cashton in Battle of Top10 Boys Basketball Teams
A battle of Top 9 teams in the Scenic Bluffs was all that and a bag of chips as Royall took down Cashton 59-57 in overtime Tuesday night. Royall trailed in the first half 24-16 before rallying to garner a 31-30 halftime lead. Royall and Cashton went back in forth in the 2nd half and were tied at 55 apiece when Royall’s Tucker Wildes was fouled with 3.7 seconds to go. Wildes free throw attempts were no good and Cashton’s desperation heave was short sending the game into overtime. Cashton struck first in overtime on a bucket by Noah Hemmersbach, but Royall answered on a Carter Uppena steal and lay in to tie the game at 57. Royall got a defensive stop and was able to score with 1.3 seconds left on an Uppena assist to Tucker Wildes who got the lay in to go. Cashton had another desperation heave that was to strong and Royall hung on for the win handing Cashton their first loss of the season. Royall ranked #9 in Division 5 was led by Carter Uppena’s 20points. Landon Lipke had a career high 19points for the Panthers while Wildes added 12points. Royall improves to 12-2 on the season and 5-1 in the Scenic Bluffs Conference. Cashton was led by Noah Hemmersbach who finished with 26points. #2 Cashton falls to 13-1 overall and 6-1 in Conference play.
