Hillsboro Volleyball Wins 1st Regional Final since 2019
The Hillsboro Tigers Girls Volleyball team swept their way to a regional championship taking down Brookwood 3-0 by scores of 27-25, 25-17, and 25-17. It was Hillsboro’s first regional championship since 2019. Michelyn Hansen led the way with 16kills and 13 assists. Maddie Herritz had 17assists in the victory improving Hillsboro to 26-9 on the season. Brookwood finishes 20-11. Hillsboro will travel to Mineral Point on Halloween for a sectional semi-final matchup.
Hillsboro Sweeps Royall to Win Outrigh SBC Volleyball Crown
The Hillsboro Tigers claimed an outright Scenic Bluffs Conference championship by sweeping Royall 3-0 Thursday night. Hillsboro won a back n forth opening set 25-23 before rolling over Royall 25-11 in set 2. Royall hung around it set 3 but ultimately succumb to Hillsboro 25-19. Michelyn Hansen led the way with numerous kills and blocks for the Tigers while Harper Sullivan hammered Royall with her serving ability. Hillsboro finishes the regular season 12-2 in the Scenic Bluffs Conference and 23-9 overall. Royall finishes 7-7 in the conference and 14-17 overall. Royall will host De Soto in a Regional Semi-Final game next Thursday in a Division 5 matchup while Hillsboro will host either River Ridge or Southwestern next Thursday.
Hillsboro Volleyball Downs Cashton Claims at Least Share of SBC Championship
The Hillsboro Tigers claimed no worse than a share of the Scenic Bluffs Volleyball Conference Championship by taking down Cashton 3-1, by scores of 25-19, 24-26, 25-16, and 25-8 on Tuesday. Hillsboro had a big game from Michelyn Hansen who unofficially had around 20kills in the victory. Freshman Kaylee Sake also became a surprise hero for the Tigers notching 3 aces as a serving specialist. Hillsboro improves to 11-2 in the Scenic Bluffs Conference while Cashton drops to 10-3. Wild Double Duals Create Clearer SBC Volleyball Championship Picture
The Scenic Bluffs Conference volleyball race is starting to take shape after a wild action of Double Duals Thursday night. The four teams at the Royall Duals split. Brookwood downed Cashton 3-2 in the first matchup creating a temporary 3 way tie atop the Scenic Bluffs Conference. Cashton would bounce back to defeat Wonewoc-Center 3-0 in the night cap and Royall would upset Brookwood in 5 sets to knock Brookwood back into 2nd place in the conference. In New Lisbon Hillsboro swept their way past Bangor 3-0 and then went on to down Necedah 3-1. In the process Michelyn Hansen notched her 1,000 career dig. Hansen now has a rate triple triple surpassing the 1,000 career kill, assist and dig milestone. Cashton and Hillsboro are tied atop the conference with matching 10-2 conference records. Hillsboro will travel to Cashton Tuesday night with the winner clinching no worse than a conference championship.
Hillsboro Defeats Wonewoc-Center to Remain in 1st Place Tie
The Hillsboro Tigers volleyball team rolled by Wonewoc-Center 3-0 Thursday night to remain tied in first place in the Scenic Bluffs Conference with Cashton. Hillsboro won 25-16, 25-22, and 25-10. Michelyn Hansen led the charge notching 14kills and 9 assists for the Tigers. Michelle Hora added 5kills for the Tigers. Hillsboro improves to 8-1 in the conference and 20-8 overall. Wonewoc-Center drops to 3-6 and 5-12 overall.
Wonewoc-Center/Royall X-Country Top Finishers
Royall/Wonewoc competed at the Reedsburg Cross Country meet on September 28. Katie Field (10th grade) took first place and Ella Dahlen (9th grade) took 3rd.
For the boys Vlad Grigorev took 16th place. The boys had enough runners to compete as a team for the first time all year an took 7th out of 8 complete teams.
Hillsboro Rallies Past Royall in SBC Volleyball
The Hillsboro Tigers completed their 2nd comeback over Royall in less than a week, this time on the volleyball court. Hillsboro dropped the first two sets to Royall 25-18 & 25-20 before rallying for the reverse sweep taking down Royall 25-10, 25-20, and 15-10. It was the 2nd straight game Royall has given up a 2-0 lead. Michelyn Hansen led the way for the Tigers notching 27kills, 6blocks, 13digs, and 11assists. Harper Sullivan had 16digs to go along with some tough serving to help rally the Tigers. Hillsboro improves to 6-1 in the Scenic Bluffs conference remaining in a two way tie with Cashton atop the conference standings. Royall drops to 4-3 in conference action.
Royall Stays Perfect with Victory over Necedah in SBC Volleyball Action
The Royall Panthers rolled over Necedah 3-0 Tuesday night. Royall and Necedah played a tight first set that saw both teams serving set point but the Panthers eventually outlasted Necedah 27-25. Royall rolled over Necedah 25-6 in set 2 before taking down Necedah 25-21 in set 3 to complete the sweep. Bria Gruen and Elizabeth Klipstein both had strong games for Royall. Ashleigh Klipstein had the set winning kill for Royall in set 2. The Panthers improve to 4-0 in the Scenic Bluffs Conference and 9-7 overall. Necedah drops to 0-4 and 2-5 overall.
Melrose-Mindoro Defeats Necedah in Football
Landon Windsor scored 3 touchdowns as Melrose-Mindoro routed Necedah 49-0 Thursday night at Mauston High School in a non-conference football game. Windsor scored on a pair of rushing touchdowns and also recovered a fumble for a touchdown in the Mustangs victory. Ethan Her scored a touchdown a knocked thru all 5 of his extra point attempts for Mel-Min. Necedah got an interception from Remington Poutler in the loss. Melrose-Mindoro improves to 1-1 Necedah drops to 0-2 on the young season.
Wonewoc-Center Volleyball Sweeps Kickapoo in Season Opener
The Wonewoc-Center Wolves volleyball team began their defense of a State Championship with a 3-0 sweep of Kickapoo Tuesday night. It was the first game for new head coach Lindsey Dryer who got a victory in her debut. The Wolves trailed much of set one but finished on a 4-0 to win the set 25-23 capped off by a Bella LeMoine ace. Set 2 was tight but Wonewoc-Center pulled it off 26-24. The 3rd set was all Wolves as at one point they scored 12 straight points to nab the set 25-16 and won the match. Senior Emma Mildbrand had numerous aces in the victory for Wonewoc-Center. The Wolves will face Necedah next Thursday.
