Royall Cant Overcome Early Deficit Falls one Game Shy of State
The Royall Panthers boys basketball team had their season come to an end to Cochrane Fountain City 53-41 Saturday in La Crosse. Royall dug themselves and early hole and could never full recover from it. C-FC scored the first 12 points of the game and led 15-2 before Royall went on a 12-0 run to get within 15-14. C-FC had a counterpunch and led by 8 at halftime and extended the lead back to a dozen early in the 2nd half. Royall fought back to tie the game at 39 but CFC scored 14 of the remaining 16 points in the game to win 53-41. Royall finishes their season at 28-1 and one game shy of the state tournament. Carter Uppena led the Panthers with 23points while Landon Lipke added 10. Lipke and Uppenas great careers come to an end alongside fellow seniors Seth Brandau, Ben Crneckiy, Cole Eberhardt, Karter Olson, Owen Dedrick, and Mason Morrisette. All leaving a big impact for Royall basketball.
Royall Survives Post Season Game vs North Crawford
The Royall Panthers survived 1st half foul trouble to prevail over North Crawford 51-48 in a WIAA Sectional semi-final game Thursday night. Already playing without Trey Wildes due to an injury Royall found themselves down 3 starters as Landon Lipke and Ben Crneckiy picked up 2 quick fouls. Carter Uppena picked up his game and kept Royall afloat in the first half leading to the eventual victory. Uppena finished with 22points and held North Crawfords leading scorer Cullen Jacobus to just 7points. Royall never trailed in the game but unlike the first matchup between these two teams was unable to pull away. Landon Lipke added 12points for Royall. Carter Emler led the Trojans with 14points. Royall improves to 28-0 on the season.
Royall Survives Highland to win 3rd Straight Regional Championship
The Royall Panthers boys basketball survived in overtime to win their third straight regional championship knocking off Highland 60-53 in overtime. It was a back in forth 2nd half that saw Royall up 50-47 with less than 10 seconds to go when Highland Bennet Smith drilled a 3pointer with 1.6 seconds to go to send the game into overtime. Royall controlled the overtime and Carter Uppena scored 8 of Royall’s 10 points and had the assist on the other Royall bucket scored by Landon Lipke. Royall got a game high 22points from Uppena while Lipke added 18points for the Panthers and Ben Crneckiy chipped in with 11. Wes Kraisinger led the Cardinals with 13points. Royall moves on to take North Crawford in a sectional semi-final match on Thursday in Prairie Du Chien, a game that can be heard on NOW92oneFM and WRJC.com.
Half Court Bomb Helps Lift Hillsboro Girls by Royall in Regional Basketball Game
Carmen Erickson’s beyond half court heave at the buzzer went in giving the Hillsboro Lady Tigers all the momentum into halftime and they road that wave to a 45-36 victory over Royall in a WIAA D5 Regional quarterfinal game Tuesday night. Hillsboro had a slow offensive first half but was lifted by Erickson who scored 15 of Hillsboro’s 21 points at the break. Royall led most of the first half but a three pointer by Michelle Hora and Erickson’s heave gave the Tigers a 21-16 halftime lead and they extended their lead to 15 points in the 2nd half. Royall was able to chip away and cut the deficit down to 5points but they would get no closer. Erickson had a game high 19points for the Tigers while Bria Gruen led Royall with 15. Hillsboro improves to 17-8 on their season and will travel to Eleva-Strum Friday night for a regional semi-final matchup. Royall’s season ends with a 10-15 record.
Defense Allows Royall to Claim 2nd Straight Outright SBC Boys Title
The Royall Panthers won their 2nd straight outright conference championship defeating Hillsboro 52-29 Monday night. Royall finishes their regular season undefeated at 24-0 overall and 14-0 in the Scenic Bluffs Conference. Royall used a strong defensive effort holding Hillsboro to just 11 first half points and held Hillsboro’s top scorer Miles Ravenscroft to just 4points. Royall was led by Carter Uppena who had a game high 21points, Landon Lipke added 13points. Hillsboro got 9 points from both Zack Morren and Jerry Von Falkenstein. Hillsboro drops to 17-6 overall and will finish the conference season with a 12-2 record. Hillsboro will travel to North Crawford on Thursday to wrap up their regular season. Royall will host Brookwood in a regional quarter-final game next Tuesday.
Royall Clinches Share of SBC Title with Blowout of Bangor
The Royall Panthers Boys basketball team clinched no worse than a share of the Scenic Bluffs Conference championship by hammering Bangor 76-34 Thursday night. Landon Lipke had a big offensive night scoring 23 points, Carter Uppena scored 13, while Braxton Board added 8points off the bench for the top ranked Panthers. Royall improves to 22-0 and 13-0 in the Scenic Bluffs Conference. Royall can win the conference outright with a win over Hillsboro on Monday. Bangor drops to 9-4 in the conference and 9-13 overall.

They Royall Wrestling Team fell to Mineral Point 72-10 in a Sectional Semi-final team wrestling matchup on Tuesday Samson Degner and TurnerCalhoun had to lone wins for the Panthers.

Royall Boys Use Big 2nd Half to Win Top 5 Basketball Battle
The top ranked Royall Panther boys basketball team used a big 2nd half to get by #4 North Crawford 78-60 Tuesday night in a battle of top five boys teams. Royall trailed much of the first half but took the lead into halftime on a Carter Uppena midrange shot at the halftime buzzer. Royall road that momentum to pull away in the 2nd half of the game. Royall got a big game from Trey Wildes who finished with 22, Landon Lipke added 19points, Carter Uppena notched 14points, while Ben Crneckiy added 12points. Royall improves to 21-0 on their season while North Crawford drops to 18-2.
Group Effort Leads Hillsboro Girls Past Brookwood
The Hillsboro Tigers girls basketball team used a team effort to breeze by Brookwood 69-41 Thursday night. Four Tiger players reached double digits in the victory. Michelle Hora & Carmen Erickson each had 16points to lead the way while Lauren Woirol & Michelyn Hansen each added 10points. Hillsboro trailed early 7-2 but then went on a 13-0 run to seize control of the game and never look back. Brookwood was led by Reagan Muehlenkamp who finished with 20points. Hillsboro improves to 15-7 on their season and 9-4 in the Scenic Bluffs Conference. Brookwood drops to 6-17 and 3-10 in the conference.
