Lyndon Station Man Leads Authorities on High Speed Chase

Marquette County Deputies arrested a Lyndon Station man after he led them on a chase.  The Deputies pulled a vehicle driven by Jordan Steeves Monday night.  Steeves was pulled over due to not having a front license plate and also having a loud exhaust.  Steeves had a passenger in his vehicle that he was not allowed to have contact with because of an open case.  Once Steeves was told he would be going to jail he fled with his vehicle.  He led authorities on a high speed chase through Marquette County swerving through lanes of traffic nearly avoiding contact with other vehicles while accessing speeds of 82mph in a 55 zone.  Steeves eventually hit an embankment in the Town of Westfield where he fled on foot before authorities located and arrested him.  Court records show prosecutors filed several counts against Steeves on Wednesday, including 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety and fleeing/eluding an officer.

The passenger in Steeves’ vehicle reported several injuries because of the crash and was taken to the hospital.

Tomah Teacher Recognized for Honor

Showing a deep commitment to student learning and the teaching profession, Lindsey Bubnich, Kindergarten teacher at Lemonweir Elementary in Tomah, achieved National Boards Certification on December 9, 2023.

National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in K-12 education and provides numerous benefits to teachers, students, and schools. It was designed to develop, retain, and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide.

When asked why she chose to pursue this certification Lindsey stated: “I chose to pursue my National Board Certification as a personal challenge to myself to become a more reflective teacher and really lean into my ‘why’ of teaching.”

“The process of working toward meeting national board standards allowed me to take a deep dive into best practice and how I could improve my teaching skills, in order to focus more on student learning versus just teaching the standards.”

“I am thankful for the reflective process and deep learning that occurred and recommend National Board Certification to anyone looking to enhance their teaching practice.” Tomah now has two National Board Certified teachers, Lindsey Bubnich and Sharon Seeley.

The Tomah School District congratulates Lindsey on her outstanding achievement.

Medical Marijuana Bill in Wisconsin State Assembly Not Going Anywhere

Potential Medical Marijuana legislation has hit a dead end in Wisconsin.

Speaker Robin Vos made it clear the bill from Assembly Republicans will not be amended.

“My job is to get a bill that will get the support of at least 50 members of my caucus through the Assembly, and then it goes to the Senate and if they want to make changes we can do a conference committee, there are a lot of things that we can do through the process.”

A key supporter of medical cannabis says efforts to pass the bill are “pointless” absent a willingness for Vos to negotiate.  Tomahawk Rep. Sen. Mary Felzkowski says she doesn’t see anything happening this session.  Senate Republicans object to having state run medical marijuana dispensaries preferring that be done through the private sector.

A teen charged in the May 2023 death of a Reedsburg girl waiting for a school bus has pleaded Not Guilty. Kevin Green who was in Sauk County Court Thursday, is charged with Homicide by Negligent use of a vehicle in connection to the wreck that killed 13-year-old Evelyn Gurney.  Prosecutors say the 18-year-old Green was allegedly texting when he didn’t notice a school bus in front of him had stopped.  A criminal complaint says when Green swerved into a ditch to avoid the bus, his pickup truck hit the back of the bus before striking Gurney.  The complaint also alleges that Green was travelling 63 miles per hour in a 55 zone at the time of the crash.  He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison if convicted.
